Condition
Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome
Acute respiratory distress syndrome is a serious lung condition in which inflammation and fluid leaking into the tiny air sacs stop oxygen from reaching the blood. Among supplements, only vasoactive intestinal peptide, also called aviptadil, has been studied, and the evidence is rated strong, but trials gave mixed results: a smaller trial found better survival at 60 days, while a larger one found no difference. So whether it helps remains uncertain, and the findings mostly come from people critically ill with COVID-19.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ARDS/Respiratory Failure Mixed results: Small RCT (n=196) showed improved 60-day survival with IV aviptadil vs placebo. Larger TESICO trial (n=461) found no difference in primary endpoint (alive and free from respiratory failure at day 60). Clinical benefit uncertain. | NoneNo effect | 5 studies | ||||
