Condition
Immune Thrombocytopenia
Immune thrombocytopenia is a condition in which the immune system mistakenly attacks platelets, the cell fragments that help blood clot, so counts fall and bruising and bleeding become likelier. The strongest evidence is for romiplostim, a medicine, and trials found lasting platelet responses in 38% of adults without a spleen and 52% of children, versus 0% and 10% on placebo. Those results come from specific groups, so they may not apply to everyone.
