Palmitoylethanolamide

Palmitoylethanolamide, often called PEA, is a fatty compound your body makes naturally, where it helps calm irritated nerves and regulate inflammation and pain signaling. People have looked at it for menstrual cramps, but the one small trial reviewed here, with 67 participants, found no clear difference in pain compared with placebo. That evidence is very limited, so it says little about how PEA works for other kinds of pain or over longer periods.
