Postbiotics are preparations of non-living microbes, or the substances those microbes produce, such as short-chain fatty acids and cell fragments, which may influence the gut lining and the immune system much as probiotics do. Little research on them has been reviewed here so far, so there are no findings to report yet. Because the evidence is so thin, it is too early to say who might benefit or what they might do.
