Substance Use Disorder
Substance use disorder is a medical condition in which people keep using alcohol or drugs despite harm, because reward, stress, and self-control circuits in the brain have been altered. Among supplements, N-acetylcysteine has drawn the most attention, and trials in people dependent on cocaine found their addiction symptoms improved. Only two small studies, covering about 245 people, back this up, so the evidence is limited.
