Smoking Behavior
Nicotine dependence keeps people smoking because nicotine acts on brain chemicals like dopamine and glutamate, so stopping brings cravings, irritability and trouble concentrating. Little research on supplements for quitting has been reviewed here so far, so there are no trial findings to share yet. Ideas about N-acetyl cysteine and vitamin C rest mostly on how they might work, and quitting often takes 8 to 11 tries.
